Top 5 – Star Wars Characters
It’s finally here kids. It’s Star Wars week! This Thursday, the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released for all of us to see and I simply cannot wait. So let’s kick off Star Wars week with a look back at the best, most legendary characters from the film series.
5 – Darth Maul
Episodes I, II, and III are not very good movies. However, one of the few bright spots from the prequels was Darth Maul. Maul reminded me of a classic, cold blooded assassin you would see in gangster and crime movies. He doesn’t say much, probably under twenty words in the entire movie, but he is all about business and his job of taking out Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan when they find Anakin. He is also the most agile and ninja-like Jedi in the entire saga. He jumps, flips, and wields a double-sided lightsaber that is just awesome.
4 – Boba Fett
What makes Boba Fett so cool and legendary is the mystery behind him. He shows up in Empire Strikes Back with a number of other bounty hunters, and when Darth Vader is giving them their mission to capture Han and the Millennium Falcon, he instructs them, “You are free to use any methods necessary, but I want them alive.” He then stops and stares at Fett, points at him, and says, “No disintegrations!” This means Fett would kill anyone at any time unless told otherwise. The only reason he’s at number four is because he goes out like punk in Return of the Jedi. Either way, Fett is one of greats.
3 – Yoda
The O.G. of the Jedi’s, Yoda is small in stature, but big in fight and knowledge. The 900 year old zen master of the Star Wars universe is responsible for everything Luke knows. He brought out Luke’s true greatness and Jedi powers, and taught him how to use the force for good, and overcome the dark side by using cryptic sayings with the words rearranged. He is also pretty handy with a lightsaber, as we saw in Attack of the Clones, which is also the only redeeming scene in that entire mess. Great Yoda is.
2 – Han Solo
Before swagger was a word in the realm of hip-hop, Harrison Ford invented it with Han Solo. Solo is as cocky as he is brilliant. The best pilot in the entire galaxy, he flew the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. Forget Luke, Solo is the true leader of the Rebel Alliance. He leads them to victory while Luke deals with his daddy issues. If you have a group of friends going as Star Wars characters for Halloween, there is usually a fight between who is going to be Han Solo, he’s that cool. He isn’t perfect, and that’s what makes him great. He’s a smuggler, he’s a scoundrel, he’s a hero.
1 – Darth Vader
How can Darth Vader not be number one? He is not only the greatest Star Wars character, but he is one of the greatest characters in all of cinema, and a case can be made that he is the greatest villain of all-time as well. As the terrifying leader of the Imperial Army, Vader is a force to be reckoned with (pun intended), and one that you can’t take your eyes off of when on screen. But what makes him the best character in all of Star Wars is that he has the best character arc. He goes from ruthless leader and the most evil person in the galaxy to overcoming the dark side and saving Luke from Emperor Palpatine. Darth Vader is as iconic as any character in cinematic history.
