Most Anticipated Movies of 2016: 20 – 11

Now that the Oscars are over, the 2015 movie year is officially over.  With that being said, it is time to look at the movies coming out in 2016.  A lot of intriguing titles coming out this year by some great filmmakers.  So many, in fact, I left titles like Suicide Squad, Jason Bourne, Assassin’s Creed, and The Jungle Book off my Top 20.  Not that I’m not excited for these films, it’s just that I am either more excited or more intrigued by other titles.  Here is the first half of my most anticipated movies of 2016.

20 – Elvis & Nixon (Liza Johnson, April 15)

Kevin Spacey plays Richard Nixon.  Michael Shannon plays Elvis Presley.  That’s all you need to know about this zany story based on true events.

19 – Ghostbusters (Paul Feig, July 15)

Anybody who is worried about this movie is insane.  The cast is absolutely incredible and Paul Feig is a comedy master and proved he could direct action with The Heat (2013) and Spy (2015).

18 – The BFG (Steven Spielberg, July 1)

Steven Spielberg is hitting new career highs as of late with Lincoln (2012) and Bridge of Spies (2015).  The BFG sounds like lighter Spielberg, but he is the master of movie magic and will always make an entertaining and human film.

17 – All Eyez on Me (Benny Boom, November 11)

I am a huge 2Pac fan, so of course I am excited about a biopic about the polarizing artist.  This movie could be another Straight Outta Compton (2015), but it sounds more like Notorious (2009).  Not a bad movie, but not a great one.

16 – The Light Between the Oceans (Derek Cianfrance, September 2)

The Light Between the Oceans brings together two of the hottest actors working today in Michael Fassbender and recent Oscar winner Alicia Vikander directed my the man behind Blue Valentine (2010) and The Place Beyond the Pines (2013) in what will surely be a powerful experience.

15 – The Circle (James Ponsoldt, TBA)

Ponsoldt is a great actor’s director and one of the most underrated talents we have today.  Working with Emma Watson and Tom Hanks, I am making an extremely early prediction for one of them, if not both, to get Oscar nominations next year.

14 – Sully (Clint Eastwood, September 2)

Tom Hanks teams up with Clint Eastwood in the true story about pilot Captain “Sully” Sullenberger and his remarkable feat of landing his disabled plane in the Hudson River.  I expect this to be a mixture of United 93 (2006) and Captain Phillips (2013).

13 – The Nice Guys (Shane Black, May 20)

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe look fantastic, having great chemistry and being funnier than they’ve ever been.  This comedy neo-noir looks a lot like Shane Black’s directorial debut Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), which is phenomenal.

12 – Batman v. Superman (Zack Snyder, March 25)

I have a lot of reservations about this movie, mainly that I didn’t like Man of Steel (2013) and I’m not a fan of Zack Snyder.  But, Wonder Woman looks awesome and I pray the fight is the most epic thing of 2016.

11-  The Founder (John Lee Hancock, November 25)

I don’t know how exciting a movie about the founder of McDonalds Ray Kroc can be, but Michael Keaton plays Kroc, so that right there sells me.  Also, Keaton has starred in the last two Oscar Best Picture winners.  Why not three?

That’s the first half of the list.  Stay tuned for the rest of the list later this week.  Which of these are you most excited about?  Comment below or hit me up on Twitter @kevflix and don’t forget to like Kevflix on Facebook by clicking right here.
