Top 5 – Movie Pets
Who doesn’t love a good pet? Whether it’s a fish, a dog, or some other animal that you can claim as a pet, we all have had some connection with an animal that we all love. So, in honor of The Secret Life of Pets, which hits theaters this weekend, here’s a look at the movie pets we all want to take home and make our own.
5 – CHANCE, SHADOW, and SASSY from HOMEWARD BOUND (Duwayne Dunham, 1993)
This trio is the definition of perseverance and family. After being left on a ranch, the three brave a cross country trip through the mountains, forests, and all over the land to get back to their rightful owners. The three are very different, as Chance is a young dope, Shadow is a wise old Golden, and Sassy is a cat who is, well, sassy. But their differences combined work together to get them home. These pets are about as loyal as they get.
4 – SPARKY from FRANKENWEENIE (Tim Burton, 2012)
Sparky is the only friend of awkward teen Victor. So when he tragically dies, Victor has the brilliant idea of reviving his only friend using lightning, a la Frankenstein. Sparky’s friendship to Victor is what ultimately makes him a great pet, because at the end of the movie, when monsters are roaming the city and Victor’s life is in danger, Sparky risks his life to save Victor and the town. He’s a hero to Victor and would be for you too. He’ll always be there for you and is pretty entertaining and cute, dead or alive.
3 – BINX from HOCUS POCUS (Kenny Ortega, 1993)
Who wouldn’t want a cat that’s incredibly sassy with an accent? When the trio of witches put a curse on Thackery Binx that turns him into an immortal cat, Binx helps the kids defeat the witches when they resurrect them. Binx is full of attitude, which you’d expect from a soul that’s been in a cat for a number of centuries. But, for a cat, he’s pretty badass, and still speaks with his old school accent and vocabulary, which would make owning him even better. The only flaw is that his spirit is now free. I guess all we need to do is wake up some more witches and we’ll be good, right?
2 – BUDDY from AIR BUD (Charles Martin Smith, 1997)
There are a number of reasons why Buddy is the ultimate pet. Firstly, he’s an adorable Golden Retriever, which is really enough. But, Buddy was also able to help a young boy overcome the grief and sadness he had after his father died unexpectedly. And best of all, Buddy is a baller. How great would it be that whenever you’re bored, you can take your dog outside and play essentially any sport? Buddy perfected basketball, but in the other sequels, he played football, soccer, volleyball, and even baseball. The options are endless!
1 – BAXTER from ANCHORMAN (Adam McKay, 2004)
Baxter is the definition of man’s best friend. Or should I say, an anchorman’s best friend (ZING!). Ron Burgundy loves his fury guy so much, that when he gets punted into the river by an angry motorcyclist, he has an emotional breakdown that causes him to miss his show and hurt his career. But, Baxter came back in the most badass way possible. He swam and trekked his way back and even befriended some bears on way, which helps him save Ron and Veronica from the bear cage and the San Diego Zoo. And, who wouldn’t want a dog who ate a whole wheel of cheese? That’s amazing.
