Top 5 – Awesome Movies Coming to Netflix in October
Netflix started streaming a number of masterpieces in September and although I wouldn’t consider this month to be filled with masterpieces, it does offer up some really good movie and some strong original programming. Here are my picks for the best movies coming to Netflix in October.

5 – BEFORE MIDNIGHT (Richard Linklater, 2013)
Before Midnight is the concluding chapter of Richard Linklater’s Before Trilogy, which is one of the greatest trilogies of all-time. The series centers are Jessie (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) and their growing relationship. Each film takes place nine years after the last and in Before Midnight, we see Jesse and Celine 18 years since they first met. They are older and married now, though their marriage life isn’t the fairy tale we hoped it would be. Hawke and Delpy are both sensational and this movie has more emotion than the previous two films. Linklater is a master at showing us authentic, real moments of life and this is another one of his masterworks.
4 – NEVER LET ME GO (Mark Romanek, 2010)
Never Let Me Go is one of the most under-appreciated movies of this millennium. Not decade, millennium. This is heartbreaking, captivating look at three childhood friends who spend their childhood at a seemingly idyllic English boarding school only to grow up and realize the world isn’t what they thought. Led by a trio of brilliant performances from Carey Mulligan, Kiera Knightley, and Andrew Garfield and some beautiful visuals, this a movie that will crush your soul and have you thinking for days after it’s over.
3 – THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES (Noah Baumbach, 2017)
The Meywerowitz Stories is a Netflix original movie and could be one of their best. The movie follows an estranged family who all come together in New York for an event celebrating their father’s artistic work. The film boasts an all-star cast of Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Emma Thompson, Sigourney Weaver, and Dusting Hoffman and is written and directed by indie darling Noah Baumbach. It premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival to positive reviews, especially for Sandler, which is shocking due to his recent track record. Some are even calling out a possible Oscar nomination for Sandler, which would be amazing Baumbach is hit and miss for me, but I can’t help but be excited to see this cast work together and see Sandler actually act and prove he hasn’t lost it yet.
2 – TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY (Adam McKay, 2006)
Talladega Nights ranks as one of Will Ferrell’s best movies, right up there with Anchorman (2004) and Old School (2003). This was the first pairing of the legendary comedic team of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. It proved that Adam McKay was a master director of comedy and that he and Ferrell were a dream team. But what makes this movie is great is that it actually has a story and themes. It’s a great sports movie and coming of age movie about not letting people take advantage of you and being your own man. It has a great cast and is absolutely hilarious. I could watch this movie any time of any day and now that it’s on Netflix, I plan on it.
1 – STRANGER THINGS: SEASON 2 (Matt Duffer & Ross Duffer, 2017)
The first season of Stranger Things came out of nowhere to be one of the best T.V. shows in recent years. It was a beautiful wonder of originality and nostalgia while combining multiple genres like horror, coming of age, and thriller. It had rich characters, great stories, and surprise after surprise. I have avoided all trailers for the new season and have only seen the posters, which are incredible. I am currently rewatching season one right now to get me ready for season two and to revisit an amazing show. If you haven’t see season one, stop what you’re doing start now. This is a show that is worth the price of Netflix and one that stand the test of time.
