5 – MEAN GIRLS (Mark Waters, 2004)

Mean Girls is one of the great comedies of the early 2000’s.  It is a perfect look at high school cliques, both the good and the bad, as new girl Cady Heron (the peak of Lindsay Lohan’s career) becomes immersed within the popular group, The Plastics.  Rachel McAdams is outstanding as Plastics leader Regina George and Amanda Seyfried is a scene stealer as the incredibly dumb Karen.  This is a smart, funny, sweet, endlessly quotable movie that will be relevant for decades to come.

4 – THE STING (George Roy Hill, 1973)

We got an oldie but goodie here, folks.  The Sting is one of the coolest and funnest Best Picture winners of all-time.  Robert Redford and Paul Newman are one of cinema’s greatest duos, and The Sting is this dynamic duo at their finest.  Playing a couple of con men attempting to pull off a major revenge score, Redford and Newman have such a ball here, showing of their comedic chops, while also flashing their acting brilliance and their never-ending charisma.  With twists and turns at every corner, you never know where The Sting is going, until it’s pitch perfect ending.  So just sit back, relax, and let this incredibly brilliant and wildly entertaining movie play out.

BigShort

3 – THE BIG SHORT (Adam McKay, 2015)

The Big Short landed at number five on my Top 10 of 2015 list and for good reason.  Written and directed by comedic mastermind Adam McKay, this look at the housing crises of 2008 is one of the wildest and most fascinating movies I’ve seen in the last few years.  McKay gave the film a pulse unlike anything in 2015 and made it accessible for people who know nothing about the stock market.  The all-star cast of Steve Carell, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt, are all brilliant and perfectly cast.  The Big Short plays like the nicer cousin of The Wolf of Wall Street, only just as brilliant.

2 – BEVERLY HILLS COP (Martin Brest, 1984)

Way back in the 1980’s, Eddie Murphy had a trifecta of perfect comedies with 48 Hours (1982), Trading Places (1983), and the film listed, Beverly Hills Cops.  Of those three, Beverly Hills Cop is my favorite because the combination of his badass police skills from 48 Hours  and his comedic genius from Trading Places and created the iconic Axel Foley.  Foley is one of my favorite cinematic characters of all-time.  He’s snarky, clever, smart, and cool as hell.  Beverly Hills Cop is one of the best comedies of the 80’s and the best Eddie Murphy has ever been.

1 – THE BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY (Robert Zemeckis, 1985, 1989, 1990)

I couldn’t have just one.  The Back to the Future Trilogy is one of the finest trilogies in all of cinema.  The first one, is a bonafide science fiction classic, and they were able to follow it up with two very good, very creative sequels that are a pleasure to watch every time.  And we get legendary performances from Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as the iconic Doc Brown.  If you haven’t seen these movies, do yourself a favor and watch all three of them.  And even if you have, give them a whirl again, they never get old.
