Best Movies of 2024: Best of the Genres

Continuing to look back at the best movies of 2024, I will now be looking at the best movies from each genre. I will be looking at my favorite foreign-language films, comedies, action movies, and a few other genres and categories. And like every year, each category will have five “nominees” (a.k.a my personal top five) with my “winner” (my favorite) in bold, followed by short reasoning as to why I picked it the best. Here are my picks for the best movies from each genre in 2024.

  • 2024 was a spectacular year for horror films, but Red Rooms, a movie I saw towards the end of the year, scared me more than any other horror film this year while also being a well-made courtroom drama.

  • 2024 was a weak year for comedy, but nothing funnier to me this year than seeing Glen Powell’s various identities in Richard Linklater’s crafty crime comedy.

  • As already stated, Red Rooms is a sensational movie. It was the scariest movie I saw in 2024 while also being a captivating courtroom thriller. Simply, it’s one of the year’s best movies.
