2021 NFL Mock Draft – Movie Edition
Kevflix has always been a website about movies, with the occasional dabble into some TV. But my first love before getting into writing about movies was sports and it is something I am still very passionate about. Since I can remember, I’ve always loved sports. I have my favorites to play and watch, but I don’t discriminate against any sport. Whether something as popular as basketball or a sport so random it might not even be classified as a sport, I’ll watch it and try to play it all.
This week, the 2021 NFL Draft is taking place, so in honor of the draft, I am going to do a mock draft of the first ten picks of the 2021 draft. Then, using my knowledge of each team, along with some real 2021 NFL mock drafts to see what the teams need, I am going to draft them a player from a football movie that would actually make an impact on their team and one that I could realistically see the team drafting if they were real.
For a football movie to be eligible, the movie must be fiction, so sorry Remember the Titans, The Express, and Friday Night Lights, and others. All fictional movie character are eligible, even if they were in high school, prison, or are older than draft picks would usually be.

#1 PICK – JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
The Jacksonville Jaguars select…
“STEAMIN'” WILLIE BEAMON, QUARTERBACK (Any Given Sunday)
- Former Ohio St. head coach Urban Meyer has taken over coaching duties in Jacksonville and fans are anticipating some changes this season. It feels like Minshew Mania is over and Jacksonville is in the market for a franchise quarterback. Though there are couple of Ohio St. products in Shane Falco and Johnny Utah that might peak Meyer’s interest, they cannot pass up “Steamin” Willie Beamon, the best pure talent in the draft. He has a great arm, is speedy on the ground, and has an attitude that will bring a swagger to Jacksonville that they’ve never seen before.
#2 PICK – NEW YORK JETS
The New York Jets select…
SHANE FALCO, QUARTERBACK (The Replacements)
- The New York Jets recently traded Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers and are in need of a quarterback, among many other positions. With top-talent Willie Beamon off the board, the Jets settle on former Ohio St. product Shane Falco. Though Falco choked in the 1996 Sugar Bowl, he’s led a rag-tag group of misfits to decent success before and the Jets could use a leader like him.
#3 PICK – SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
The San Francisco 49ers select…
PAUL CREWE, QUARTERBACK (The Longest Yard)
- The Niners traded up from the number twelve spot for this pick, so they want to make it a good one. The Niners have a solid defense, a decent running game, a plethora of up-and-coming receivers, and one of the best tight ends in the game in George Kittle. The only problem is they haven’t had anyone consistent at quarterback. Though Jimmy Garapallo is talented, he’s had trouble staying on the field due to injuries. It is time for San Fran to move on from Jimmy G and they can do so with Paul Crewe. Though a slightly troubled past, Crewe has moved on from that and has since become a great leader. That, along with immense talent, can really help the 49ers get back to the Super Bowl sooner than we think.
#4 PICK – ATLANTA FALCONS
The Atlanta Falcons select…
BRIAN MURPHY, TIGHT END (The Replacements)
- The Atlanta Falcons are a bit of a mess. They’re defense is abysmal and their offense, though incredibly talented on paper, just can’t seem to get it together. Though it looks like they should rebuild, Matt Ryan still has a lot in the cannon and can still throw it all over the field. Julio Jones (when healthy) and Calvin Ridley are top ten receivers in the league, but the Falcons could really use a strong tight end to help Ryan with check-downs and targets in the red zone. Though born deaf, Brian Murphy is a smart and gritty talent with soft bands who will grab anything within arms reach. He’ll immediately make an impact on the Falcons offense.
#5 PICK – CINCINNATI BENGALS
The Cincinnati Bengals select…
JUMBO FUMIKO, OFFENSIVE TACKLE (The Replacements)
- The Bengals drafted Joe Burrow first overall last year and the rookie showed why he was highly touted coming out of LSU. The only problem is that Burrow tore his ACL week 11, causing him to miss the rest of the season. Though losing A.J. Green offers some opportunity on the receiving end, they must look to protect their future. Fumiko is an absolute monster and his background in sumo gives him a unique skill set that will allow him to be quick and use his hands effectively. He could end up being Burrow’s number one guy for years to come.
#6 PICK – MIAMI DOLPHINS
The Miami Dolphins select…
ROD TIDWELL, WIDE RECEIVER (Jerry Maguire)
- The Miami Dolphins have two really good wide receivers in DeVante Parker and Will Fuller, who they acquired in the off-season from Houston, that will surely give Tua Tagovailoa some targets to throw to. But Tua doesn’t have the biggest arm and needs some help on the short game, along with overall toughness on the offensive end. Rod Tidwell, a product out of Arizona State, is a tough receiver that Miami can throw in the slot. Tidwell catches everything that comes near him and has a great personality that will match the bright Miami Beach spotlight.
#7 PICK – DETROIT LIONS
The Detroit Lions select…
DEACON MOSS, WIDE RECEIVER (The Longest Yard)
- Deacon Moss is the most talented received in the draft, many touting him as the next Michael Irvin (*wink wink*). This is a no-brainer decision for the new look Detroit Lions. The Lions traded longtime quarterback Matt Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in the off-season for Jared Goff and they lost their top two receivers in Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones Jr. Moss would immediately become Goff’s number one target and a threat to be reckoned with in the NFC North.
#8 PICK – CAROLINA PANTHERS
The Carolina Panthers select…
BILLY BOB, OFFENSIVE TACKLE (Varsity Blues)
- The Panther’s lost Curtis Samuel this off-season, which leaves a huge hole in their offense. They still have DJ Moore and Robby Anderson, which is why they’ll wait to grab Samuel’s replacement in a later round. The Panthers traded for Sam Darnold in the off-season and need to protect him and All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey. If you want great protection, Billy Bob is the lineman for you. Concussions could shorten his career, however, so the Panthers will have to be super cautious with him. But he’s worth the gamble and will give Darnold excellent protection to sling it.
#9 PICK – DENVER BRONCOS
The Denver Broncos select…
JOHNNY UTAH, QUARTERBACK (Point Break)
- The Broncos quarterback situation is a bit of a mess right now. Between Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, and Jeff Driskel, none of them are a viable options at this point and Denver needs to get its young receiving core the ball. And though they just traded for Teddy Bridgewater from Carolina, is he really a franchise quarterback? I don’t think so, but I do know someone who has the potential: Johnny Utah. The Ohio St. product led the Buckeyes to a Rose Bowl victory, though he had a gruesome knee injury in that game. That shouldn’t sway them away from Utah though. If he isn’t 100%, they could have Utah sit behind Bridgewater and learn from the veteran. Utah has franchise potential, as he is tough, adaptable, crafty, and has a great arm.
#10 PICK – DALLAS COWBOYS
The Dallas Cowboys select…
BOBBY BOUCHER, LINEBACKER (The Waterboy)
- Many may say that Dak Prescott’s injury killed the Cowboys season last year. Though he is a major part of the franchise, there was one thing that really killed the Cowboys last year: their horrendous defense. Regardless of if Dak was on the field or not, their defense was a travesty. They need a game-changer who can help get stops on the defensive end so that the incredibly talented offense can do their thing. Boucher is an absolute animal on the defensive side and everyone in the NFC East would be terrified seeing the stuttering Mud Dog on the field. Plus, he’ll bring the cleanest water Dallas has ever seen.
